IR - in and out of season

28 June, 2012

Looking up at the calendar I see that, despite all evidence to the contrary, Summer is meant to be here. Thinking of the season reminds me that there can indeed be a seasonal aspect to some aspects of Ceramicx heat work: Winter in Northern Europe, for example, traditionally sees an influx of orders in the Comfort IR area. Winter is also a time for emergency call outs to factories who have perhaps neglected their heating needs until the cold weather snap arrive. However, the Summer months traditionally provide no let up for us, and this is as it should be. Because in truth  - and as Frank's previous blog pointed out - Infrared (IR) based Heating has less to do with temperature and much more to do with the focused application of radiation upon a target body. For example, in a country where the ambient temperature is rarely below 20 degrees our Greek distributor, Sophocles, is doing robust IR heating business in season and out of season. The surrounding temperature and climate matters little to the need to apply a repeatable and reliable radiation source - either for industrial use or for the built human environment. In nearby Turkey the situation is the same. Our friends at Ser Rezistans continue to advance the Ceramicx IR portfolio continue in order to increase IR market share in Turkey, month in, month out and whatever the weather. And just a few weeks ago, Bobby and Damian Bell of ABSO Industries in South Africa completed a module of new IR training with us. CapeTown, South Africa, is hardly famous for its lack of warm temperatures and yet our associate ABSO has identified many markets and applications for the usage of IR heating. The recent world soccer tournament in South Africa handed ABSO a number of new opportunities and orders, including the design and manufacture of inline heat exchangers for the air conditioning of the new Cape Town soccer stadium that successfully hosted the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Through ABSO, Ceramicx has been fortunate to be selling into the South African climate and markeplace for a number of years - principally with our FTE Range to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Ceramicx is now working with ABSO and heat technology for South African needs on a larger scale, and especially regarding infra-red applications engineering. Again, all of this has very little to do with climate or seasonal temperature. The full South African story will feature in our forthcoming and 7th edition of HeatWorks magazine. Make sure that you get your copy from Ceramicx direct. Meantime - enjoy the summer!
