IR heat offers greater precision and control

One of the things you’ll be seeing much more from Ceramicx in coming months is a growing emphasis on heat systems engineering. I never tire of pointing out that one of the beauties of infrared heat technology – unlike conventional - is that it is a targeted heat source. From this IR precision comes much opportunity. And when you also layer in a comprehensive system of heat and process control those targeted opportunities multiply. Take the Hetronik C500 control system for example: When coupled with Ceramicx-based ovens and platens the customer comes to enjoy an unprecedented degree of accuracy, safety and cost saving. Driven by our partner WECO International, US manufacturing is currently leading the way in the adoption of this combination, mainly for plastics thermoformers. Other countries and other industries are set to follow on.
The primary benefit of such systems – great control; great IR heat performance - is that they offer customers a quantum leap in decreased energy usage, increased production, reduced scrap and downtime. A good control system will also give you a timely ‘heads up’ in the event of any malfunction or faulty production. This is particularly important in a competitive marketplace such as vacuum forming of plastics and, as said, other industries will follow; including glass, fabric, paint and medical. Infrared heating requires less acclimatization than you might think: Project turnaround times can be achieved in under six weeks for a complete oven control system for plastics thermoforming. And getting a new IR heating systems designed and installed typically needs three to four days onsite for integration, including a 24 hour run off period. In the months to come Ceramicx expects an increase in demand for turnkey IR packages; design and installation. Shipping IR heaters ‘out of the box’ to clients is no longer the way forward. Many companies and sectors are now ready to take the IR heating plunge. The Ceramicx practice of full-service consultation, design and supply is the way to get ahead. More on the Hetronik system in the current edition of HeatWorks magazine – online here; or free print copy on application to Ceramicx.
