Helping our low carbon future
16 October, 2012
Every business today – large and small - needs to take careful stock of all its activities as they impact upon the environment. There can be no doubt that our low-carbon footprint future is arriving faster than we think.
In some ways this issue presents greater challenges for manufacturers such as ourselves; running plants and processes that are outside brown belts and traditional industrial areas. The bar for any kind of development in our part of the world can often be raised that much higher. Manufacturing in the countryside is often required to justify its existence against the more established interests of the tourism, leisure and even agriculture. A healthy spirit of give and take is needed in order for all parts of the economy to prosper and go forward. In terms of planning and development the manufacturing baby can often get thrown out with the bath water. This is often very unfortunate for the local economy since beautiful views do nothing to arrest a decline in local jobs or put food or wages on the table. Ceramicx Infrared Heat Consultants is therefore delighted to be supporting the best of both worlds; having recently contributed to a local initiative that has enhanced our local environment; contributed to our carbon tax offset and also provided a store of future fuel. We have recently finished planting a total of eighteen acres of forestry on our local mountain side. Ably assisted in this by Greenbelt and by Mr. Alan Farrelly of that company we believe that this represents a very positive instance of complementary environmental and social action. Stewardship of the local area is raised while our manufacturing continues to provide jobs and prosperity and the funds for such environmental initiatives. Ceramicx also hopes that legislation will be progressed where the carbon tax applied to gas will be offset against the carbon sequestration capability of the trees. Reforestation is desirable and environmental and the trees also represent a long-term investment. Ceramicx is more than happy to do as much as we possibly can for the beautiful environment we live in and for all sectors of trade and industry to prosper together.
