World manufacturing – many bright spots on the horizon

20 December, 2012

There’s something about the current Eurocentric view – the media; the economies; the endless rounds of talks and reporting - that makes for a very skewed viewpoint - particularly for those such as ourselves trying to stay in the zone of wealth creation. At Ceramicx we find it beneficial to temper the chronic Euro-news with many other global points of view: For example, preparing to exhibit at Chinaplas in the Spring of next year reminds us of our obligations to very different needs and opportunities in China. It’s also a tonic to service the vast differences in scale and growth in those markets. Quality, technology, service, sales and marketing; Ceramicx delivers all of these in a specific way to China and the Chinaplas 2013 show will give us the springboard to penetrate the region further; offering more products and more know-how. On the other side of the world it is my belief that a US manufacturing tsunami is gathering pace. The presidential election put the USA on hold last year. But many issues are now settled down and have become crystal clear – not least the prospect of a self-sufficient US energy future and to American manufacturing jobs coming back home. Last week Apple announced manufacturing jobs returning to California. Many others, great and small, will follow suit. Before you know it American manufactured exports will once more be the order of the day throughout the world. Ceramicx intends to use its IR heating expertise and work closely with our US distributors in order to enable the US manufacturing revival across all of the fifty states. Meantime, for Ceramicx, the month of November is coming to mean the Turkish market for infrared heating. Both Cathal and myself used the opportunity of some key trade shows to visit the country at the beginning and end of the month. Hasan and the team at Ser Rezistans are doing an excellent job as our distributor/reseller. They have achieved excellent market share with the thermoforming machinery builders there; double digit growth in the Turkish economy generally is very helpful and a high level of appetite and intelligence around IR heating is making sure that we will continue to supply and service Turkey at a high level. Turkey and Ser Rezistans are also a gateway to the complex situations and markets of the Middle East and beyond. Even here, one has to hope that economies and markets will settle down. It is in fact inevitable that industry and consumers will need to benefit from the cost and energy savings that IR heating technology brings. In these matters – ‘better to light a candle than curse the darkness’. With a little perspective some cheer can always be found.
