Ceramicx sets sights on a world-class future
27 June, 2013
These are exciting times at Ceramicx. Plans this week were confirmed for further investment in our Gortnagrough site; upgrading and modernizing the facilities here and landscaping the grounds to the best standards in environmental and ecological design.
As long as Ceramicx can compete on a level competitive playing field our West Cork business future remains very bright, particularly as it continues to enable this company to export to over 65 countries worldwide and to constantly sharpen our international manufacturing competitiveness.
Last year you may recall that Ceramicx achieved world-class manufacturing status – measured in the top 2% of the world for our ceramic-based production performance. The time has now arrived for this world-class competitiveness to be housed in a world-class facility: Our planned developments and refurbishments will give us an environment the equal of anything in the world in terms of technology, ecology and good design – an environment in which Ceramicx would be proud to host visitors from all over the world; including leading clients such as Aston Martin, Corning Glass and Rolls Royce.
Ceramicx is a relatively small company but we punch much more than our weight and I believe we’re on the right track. For example, we have maintained double digit growth over the past four years, and are continuously improving our high-value products and services all over the world. We’re also doing all that we can to help the West Cork region and to help others nurture positive manufacturing business values and practices for the benefit of the whole area.
Our planned new refurbishments and developments are in line with everything done here in the past 21 years. We have always sought to measure and perfect all of our manufacturing processes and steadily improve the price/performance ratio for our products. The improved facilities and environments will help us do this work even better.
Every Ceramicx infrared heating element and item we make is now delivered to its worldwide destination with a complete data bank of quality assurance information; numbered and traceable and also a detailed specification of heat performance data; graphical and numerical. Every such product supplied by us now has its own individual and technical 'thumbprint', available exclusively to its purchaser/user.’ This kind of customer service is unique to our industry and a great asset for our clients.
Meantime our manufacturing innovations continue with an Enterprise Ireland Innovation Partnership project jointly run with Trinity College Dublin (TCD). This involves an automated cell - using an Infrared machine tool - that will measure the production of IR energy emissions in 3D space – the first equipment of its kind. Despite its discovery and existence over fifty years ago, the detail of Infrared heat technology is still not very well understood – even in the industrial world. This project will literally create maps for a new science of IR heating.
Our new machine tool will launch at the world’s premier plastics manufacturing exhibition in Dusseldorf Germany, October 16. Exciting times, as I said. Ceramicx is looking forward to a dynamic few years ahead; much change in the making and plenty to build upon for the future.
